Per- and poly- fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are toxic compounds that are resistant to water, oil, heat, and grease and have been used in many consumer and industrial products since the 1940s. Commonly known as “forever chemicals”, PFAS are persistent in the environment and don’t break down easily.

Arcwood Environmental™ Services provides full-service solutions for the management and disposal of “forever chemicals”, including Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF), by working with our customers to develop safe and compliant strategies. Our services include:

Receipt of PFAS material at our Arcwood permitted hazardous waste incinerator that can destroy PFAS-containing wastes

Forever chemicals can build up on the body over time and scientific studies have linked exposure to some PFAS with concerning health effects in humans and animals, including altered immune and thyroid function, liver disease, kidney disease, and cancer, among other health impacts. The EPA has determined that these compounds are not safe for human health and the environment and has developed a Strategic Roadmap to address them.
